Push notifications (FCM)
On login, the app registers for push notifications if Firebase is configured. Used for platform-level alerts.
In-app pickup alerts

Polling interval: 10 seconds on dashboard.
Absence alerts (SMS/WhatsApp)
Sent from Class Absentees — not push notifications. Delivered via school's SMS/WhatsApp gateway to parent phone numbers.
Example pickup alert sequence
- Guard scans QR — pending count 0 → 1
- Teacher's phone plays tone
- Snackbar: *"New pickup at gate (1 pending)"*
- Bell shows red 1
